The dashboard is not a report card. It is a structural readout of your position. Here is how to interpret each panel without misreading the signal.
The AI Career Index dashboard is dense by design. Every panel exists for a structural reason and removing any of them would weaken the reading. This guide walks through the panels in the order you should read them, because reading them out of order produces a partial picture and partial pictures are worse than no picture at all. The reading takes 15-20 minutes the first time; subsequent re-reads (every 6 months) take 5-10.
Start with the headline score
The headline score is a single number on a 0-1,000 scale. It is not a grade. It is a relative position inside the structural model. Higher numbers indicate stronger structural positioning. Look at the score, register where you sit in the bands, and then move on. Do not anchor on this number. It is the entry point to the dashboard, not the conclusion.
Score band reading: 800+ Authority/Architect band, structurally insulated. 650-800 strong Operator or Architect-leaning. 500-650 Operator band, bimodal exposure. 350-500 Execution-leaning, migration priority. Below 350 Execution band, urgent migration.
Read your archetype next
The archetype is the most explanatory panel. It tells you why you got the score you got. Two professionals can hit the same score for completely different structural reasons, and the archetype is what disambiguates them. Read the archetype carefully. It will name your current posture and describe the structural shape of your current position.
Then look at the CEI
The Compression Exposure Index reads your current durability. A green band means you are insulated at the present moment. An amber band means structural pressure is building. A red band means compression is acting on the role now and you have a finite runway. The CEI does not tell you what to do — it tells you how urgent the doing is.
Then the Authority Band
Authority Band tells you the altitude at which you are operating. Cross-reference this with your CEI. A high Authority Band combined with a green CEI indicates a structurally strong, insulated position. A low Authority Band combined with a red CEI indicates a position that is seeing pay change and needs structural intervention. The combination of the two is more informative than either reading on its own.
AMP+ shows the slope
Authority Migration Probability tells you which way the structural pressure is moving you. Read it after the CEI and the Authority Band, because the migration probability only makes sense once you know your current position. A high upward migration probability is a strong signal even if your current readings are mixed, because it suggests the structural conditions of your role are improving.
Projection chart and Acceleration Plan come last
The projection chart and the Acceleration Plan are the action layer. Do not read them first. Read them after you have absorbed the structural readings above, because the projection is meaningful only in the context of the structural picture and the plan is calibrated to that structural picture. Reading the plan in isolation is like taking a prescription without a diagnosis.
What to do after the read
Pick one move. The plan recommends a sequence; pick the first move only. Trying to start three moves at once produces no movement on any of them.
Schedule the next read. Six months from now. The plan is built around that cadence; the structural metrics shift on that timeline; the dashboard re-runs against your updated inputs.
Don't share the score with peers. The score depends on personal structural inputs that other people don't have visibility into. The cross-comparison is meaningless without the underlying inputs. Use it for your own planning.
Re-read the archetype periodically. The archetype shifts on 12-24 month cycles when you make structural moves. Catching the archetype shift is the leading indicator that the migration is landing.
