Why $49 Once: The Decision System Pricing Model

AI Career Index does not run on subscriptions. The pricing model is deliberately a single $49 unlock, and that decision is structural, not promotional.

Almost every modern software product runs on a subscription. The AI Career Index does not. The Premium unlock is a single $49 payment with no recurring billing, no upgrade prompts, and no premium-tier ladder. This is not a launch promotion and it is not a pricing experiment. It is a structural decision about what the product actually is.

Subscriptions are a tool pattern

Subscriptions make sense for tools. A tool gets used over and over and the value compounds with usage. Photo editors, design suites, communication platforms, hosting infrastructure: all of these are correctly priced as subscriptions because the user returns to them weekly or daily and the ongoing cost is visibly tied to ongoing value. Subscriptions punish the user for stopping and reward them for continuing, which is the right incentive for a tool.

AI Career Index is not a tool

The AI Career Index is not a tool. It is a decision system. You do not return to it weekly. You return to it at structural inflection points: when something has changed, when the next plan needs calibrating, when the projection needs to be re-run against new conditions. The right return cycle is months, not days. A subscription would charge you for time during which the product is correctly idle, and that is misalignment.

Why a single payment, not freemium with limits

Freemium with limits is the lazy compromise between a subscription and a one-time purchase. It usually creates worse incentives than either pure model because it incentivises the company to make the free tier deliberately frustrating and the paid tier deliberately oversold. The AI Career Index has a free tier (the Snapshot), but the free tier is genuinely useful on its own. The Premium tier is not a less-frustrating version of the same thing. It is a structurally different product layer that exists for a different purpose.

Why $49 specifically

$49 is high enough to signal that the product is consulting-grade and not impulse-purchase entertainment. It is low enough that the structural value of the unlock is unambiguous relative to the cost. Most professionals would not hesitate to spend $49 on a tool that genuinely improves their structural position over the next two years. The price was set to make the decision easy when the value is real and to make the decision impossible when the value is not.

What this means for the user

It means the AI Career Index is not trying to retain you in the subscription sense. It is trying to be useful enough that you come back when you need it, recommend it when someone else does, and remember the product as an honest exchange rather than a billing relationship. That is the posture a decision system has to occupy. Subscriptions would make that impossible.

What the $49 unlocks

Full structural model. CEI, Authority Band, AMP+, Structural Archetype, all the underlying dimension scores. The free Snapshot has the headline numbers; Premium has the full model.

The 24-month projection chart. Drift Path vs Strategic Path with the gap quantified.

The 6-Month Acceleration Plan. Sequenced structural intervention calibrated to your specific configuration.

Executive PDF report. Downloadable, shareable with mentors, coaches, or for personal records.

All future assessments. Lifetime access; no re-payment for re-assessment in 6 or 12 or 24 months.

Common questions

Will the price go up? Possibly, as the framework matures and adds capabilities. The unlock is grandfathered for users who paid at the current price.

Is there a refund policy? Yes; see refund policy. The product is structural enough that most users know within hours of unlocking whether the value is real.

Why not just freemium with the same content? Because the structural framework requires the user to engage with it as a decision system, not as a feature-limited tool. The clean break between free and paid keeps the product honest in a way freemium structurally cannot.
