The 25 Most AI-Exposed Jobs in 2026

A ranked look at the roles under the most direct AI compression pressure, what they have in common, and why exposure doesn't mean extinction.

The AI Career Index tracks every role in the full directory on a composite exposure score that runs from 0 to 100. The top 25 most exposed roles cluster at the top end of the scale. They share three structural features that together explain their position on the compression curve, and the list is more informative about what is happening to knowledge work than any single number. The live ranking is on the AI career risk rankings page; this article explains the pattern behind the list and what to do about it.

The three structural features the top 25 share

First, a high share of routine production work. The typical role in the top 25 has 60-75% of task time in routine output: drafting, reporting, coding, analysis production, standard communication. This is the layer AI tools have reached first because it's the layer where the work is most pattern-based and least context-dependent.

Second, low structural accountability. These roles produce outputs for someone else's decision rather than owning decisions themselves. When accountability sits with a senior reviewer, manager, partner, or client, AI can take over the production layer without breaking the decision chain. The accountability mechanism is unchanged; only the producer changes.

Third, high substitutability at the exception layer. In most production-heavy roles, exceptions are escalated rather than resolved. AI tools handle the routine case efficiently and escalate what they can't handle, which mirrors how the role already worked. That is why the substitution is smooth rather than disruptive.

What's on the top-25 list

The ranked list is dominated by knowledge-worker production roles. Representative entries (the live list updates as roles are added):

Tech production tier. QA Engineers, routine Frontend Developers, Mobile App Developers at the production tier, Database Administrators, Systems Administrators.

Finance and accounting routine tier. Bookkeepers, Underwriting Assistants, routine Credit Analysts, Mortgage Loan Officers.

Legal support tier. Paralegals, Court Reporters, Court Clerks.

Marketing and content production. Content Writers, Copywriters at the routine tier, Email Marketing Specialists, SEO Specialists, Marketing Automation Specialists.

Sales pipeline tier. Sales Development Reps, Inside Sales Reps, Sales Operations Analysts.

Creative production. Routine Graphic Designers, Video Editors at the production tier, Real Estate Photographers.

Administrative and operations. Receptionists, Cashiers, Recruiters at the routine tier, Benefits Administrators, Tutors, Travel Agents.

These are real jobs with real people in them. The point of the list is not that they disappear, but that the structural pressure on the routine layer is now visible enough to plan around. The role-page for each has a specific six-month migration plan.

Why exposure is not extinction

High exposure does not mean the role disappears. It means the market is changing pay for the routine production layer of the role faster than the rest. The durable slice still exists in every one of these roles: typically a combination of client-facing accountability, regulatory signing authority, judgement in non-standard cases, or relationship-bearing senior work. The professionals who migrate into that slice keep their leverage. The ones who don't face the price compression head-on.

Across the AI Career Index dataset, professionals at the senior tier of these roles consistently come out of the next 24 months in stronger positions than their peers at the junior tier, even within the same nominal job title. Tier mobility, not job change, is the dominant pattern in successful migrations.

What to do if your role is on the list

1. Read your role page. Every role in the directory has a six-month migration plan calibrated to its specific compression pattern.

2. Reach AI-tooling fluency in your function. The AI tooling fluency playbook is the foundation. Compress 8-15 hours per week from routine work.

3. Migrate up the band. The executor-to-architect playbook is the canonical move. Take ownership of one architect-layer outcome end-to-end.

4. Consider lateral migration if the in-role move isn't viable. The 25 most insulated jobs reading and the 10 AI-proof careers reading cover where the appreciation is happening.
